3KA learned about the discovery of some Viking chessmen in their Creative Curriculum today. We learned that many were found buried on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. They were made from walrus tusks and sperm whale teeth from Greenland and were used to play chess by the Vikings in Norway. We also learned of their appearance in one of the Harry Potter fims! We then made our own chessmen from clay, which is another material the Vikings used.
